I'm convinced to this day that they were both high on meds. I started out with them at my house and then moved to keeping them at their own home. As they started learning how to walk I would take them outside whenever it was pretty so they could run around to their little curious hearts' content. One day when they were about a year and a half old and I was about 15 we were outside and I was pulling them around in their wagon. I realized that it must be getting close to nap time so I pulled up to the back door and went to open the door, but it wouldn't open. "No worries," I thought "I'll just go around to the front door" so I pulled the wagon to the front door and tried there. But I had forgotten that I was an obedient babysitter and had locked the front door at their parents' request. So I was literally locked out with no phone and two toddlers. I didn't know any of the neighbors at the time and didn't have a car because mom had dropped me off on her way to town. I did finally end up getting inside and laid the twins down just in time for their afternoon nap. How you ask? Well... let's just say there was a metal rod and broken glass involved. Yes. I totally broke into a house. On purpose. I was an emotional mess afterwards but all my brothers thought I was cool for daring to do so and the parents let me continue to keep their kids. Fast forward 4 years to the present. I'm 19 almost 20 (remember that) and the twins are 5. The twins have a little pup tent and because it is still the middle of January it is set up inside for them to play in. On this particular day we were zipped-up inside the tent playing around having a good 'ole time but because their attention span is about this big they soon got bored and requested to play outside the tent for a while. I went to unzip the door flap, but the zipper wouldn't budge. It had gotten stuck on the little flap thing that flaps over the zipper (you know, the one that always gets caught in the teeth. Which by the way WHO WAS THE IDIOT WHO THOUGHT OF THAT GENIUS IDEA?!?!?!??? THEY SHOULD BE FIRED FROM THEIR JOB!!!!). I worked with it and worked with it but I couldn't get the stupid thing undone. Finally I got a big enough opening that Little Red could squeeze through leaving just me and Big Stuff in the tent. I got Little Red to hand me my phone out of my purse (yes didn't have my phone again) and I called the dad. Thankfully he was only about 5 minutes from home. So I settled back and tried to calm Big Stuff down who was goin' all drama king on me convinced that we were "NEVER getting out of here!". Then I realized something terrible. I had locked the door. Again. I instructed Little Red to unlock the knob but he was too short to reach the chain lock on the top of the door. How did we finally get the door unlocked? I had to tell a 5 year old boy something you never tell a 5 year old to do; stand on a chair in order to unlock the door. The dad did get in and finally got us out but not before Big Stuff passed gas inside the tent and the dad got everything caught on video. From now on my phone will be permanently attached to my hip and I don't think I'll ever lock the door again. But it would be just my luck that on that day the house would get broken into and my phone would go dead on me.
